The deeper meaning…

Yesterday itself I understood the deeper motive of the government in increasing the reservation seats. First of all, to all those who are opposing the move, please think again. Population, in India is increasing beyond imagination. If we continue to populate at this pace then by 2040 (may be even faster if we are challenged!) will surpass China in terms of population. And we are not producing enough jobs for our children; the future is also not very promising.

The government, seriously hats off!, for the first time in the history has taken an interesting move to curb the population menace. How? Yes, by reservation move. Its getting tougher for us to get admissions imagine what will happen when the next generation sees the ray of light? It will be all the more tough for them. Indians are not masochists; we wont let our children suffer the way we are i.e. admission problems, quality education etc.. So the hidden solution of the government is to increase the quota. Many will retort to marry and start a family thinking their children will suffer and the family planning department of the government will get a boost!!

Okay you people got the idea. I wasted your 2 minutes just now.

Optimism

It is tempting for me, personally to write on the recent controversy regarding the reservation and the mandal commission.

Being a blog writer on politics mainly let me divulge a bit first.

Cinema, good or bad, has an effect on the audience, the society and the people indirectly involved. Rang De Basanti (RDB) is claimed to be the highest grosser in the past decade or so (my facts are not very clear). But was it enough to make a difference in the lives of the people? Seriously, was it?

Every one praised the attempt by Mr Mehra. But was the movie successful enough to bring that required change or Indians still think the same way?

The same way, we cannot change… corruption is a part of our lives… bribes are normal, etc. etc.

It’s a shame that we people are still not in the position to take entertainment and movies beyond “just entertainment”. RDB had sparked a fire, which has slowly died down. Although I don’t think I should say slowly as the movie is still in the cinemas and we can see the ad in the newspapers with the producers making tall claims abut the movie’s success.

Yes, the movie is a success but after the recent reservation row emerging yet again, I’m forced to say that the success of the movie is only monetary. It has completely failed to make people understand that they can bring about a change in life, in the system, that they have the power.

I’m not blaming the director or the producer for making such a brave attempt but only cursing myself for being so stubborn.

“There are two primary choices in life: To accept conditions as they exist, or accept the responsibility for changing them”

People have not understood this fact. Otherwise some like Arjun Singh would not have called the shots. It is easy to imagine that the leaders are least concerned about the development of the country and are most bothered about the vote bank.

People are only talking about the bad this move is going to do. But no one is wiling to initiate an action, an action that will spark an agitation and bring our lazy minds and unexplored potential to change the world.

I read a blog and the writer wrote that, “We now have to go the RDB way!”

At least some one thought of doing something apart from the talking. But seriously, are we doing anything?? We are a million different voices, scattered, that’s why ineffective. With this blog I ask each and every one who reads this and is in agreement with what I say to leave a comment and the email id. We will bring the change. Together.

The gain of Sacrifice Queen by the loss of “Office of Profit”

I don’t think I ll be wrong if I crown the “Bahu’ of India’s biggest and oldest political family, the Gandhi’s, Sonia, undoubtedly, as the sacrifice Queen!

Well seeing her past record, she is improvising and with style. It was hard for me to absorb the term “Office of Profit” as technically all the politicians of the greatest democracy are driven by their personal “profit motives” only. So from where does the question arise of only a handful people in the Rajya Sabha bearers of the “Office of Profit”? And yes, the par excellence Indian media who recognised her true sacrifice yet again and gave her 100 per cent airtime, full marks to them.

Now getting back from the modesty extravaganza. I have a few questions in my mind. Lets take a hypothetical situation of a workplace. Ok, lets assume, I, applied for a job with fake resume and certificates. I got the job. After sometime I apprehend that my employer has realised from his sources that I have faked my certificates. Now before he throws me out don’t you people think I ll be wise enough to resign?

Now would you call that action “Saving my face”? (Which I don’t think I ll manage!) Or a “Sacrifice”? I m not saying Sonia Gandhi faked her credentials to gain the Rajya Sabha seat. But, that if she wasn’t eligible for the seat then why did she resign after the intervention of Election Commission? I assume that she knew her status and the status of her holding the “Office of Profit”. Isn’t it just another political gimmick by Mrs Gandhi to portray herself as the follower of the truth and guided by the principles laid down by the Gandhis?

Ok I believe her, she resigned, better late than never. Then why do the Congress and the media have to dub the act as a sacrifice? Even Hajmola didn’t help me in digesting this fact. I mean, if I am not “eligible” for a post I have to step down. It’s a requirement and not a favour.

When the army chief turns into politician

President of Pakistan General Musharraf is slowly turning, or I should say, very fast turning into a shrewd politician. Knowing the amount of pressure building up on him regarding the “k” factor, and the kind of impatience being shown by the general to script a dialogue on the peace process, its not striking or shocking that he is turning yet again to the whole world via media to showcase his utmost desire to end the 55 year old problem. The recent interview to Karan Thapar has clearly shown the cunningness and the shrewdness of Mr. Musharraf. Sensing very well the nerves of the militants and the core commanders in the Pakistani army, the general suggested the innovative idea to lend his full support to end the cross border infiltration and terrorism if the Indian government “demilitarise” three important cities of J&K namely kupwara, Baramulla and Srinagar.

I sincerely hope that the President of Pakistan remembers his earlier statement made in 2004 that he will do his level best to make sure there is no infiltration in the Indian side of the LOC. Now, about two years later, he makes a complete turn around by stating that the Indian government should first demilitarise the three cities in the valley. I would like to tell to Mr. President Musharraf that “if you want to gain something, then please, learn to sacrifice also”.

This is a clear act of desperation to appeal to his own people that he is trying his best to find a solution to the Kashmir problem and it’s the Indian side that’s not responding the way it should. Well, Sir, if the people of Pakistan believe you then clearly your job is done and we will, for sure, see you win the elections soon.

Somewhere deep down, he is scared. Scared of the people of Pakistan, whom he promised Kashmir. He couldn’t get it through Kargil and now, trying the political way. Full marks for manipulating the options in his hands but, alas, he still has to go a long way in gaining our trust.

The Volcker controversy

The Indian political leaders are adamant on proving their selfishness. Thats probably one thing left in them which they do by taking their conscience in complete confidence. Oil, undoubtedly the most disputed commodity today drove The US against Iraq and The Indians towards Iraq. Hefty surcharges were paid to Iraq, Oil was purchased and everyone from natwar singh to Andy sehgal of Hamdan exports gained as the common man lost his money on the ever rising prices. Even the Prime Minister Shri Manmohan Singh did nothing but the assurance of "doing Justice". Can anyone please explain too me what is "justice"? Leaving the tained minister as it is by just accepting their resignation or forming a commission to find out the truth which will take years and then everyone will forget the real incidence?

Even the media is fairly responsible for comfortably sidelining the seriousness of the issue. The Volcker controvery was highlighted and is slowly on the verge of dissappearance. I appeal to the media and to the people of this humble country to please stand up against the constant injustice by our leaders and take steps to punish the guilty.
